Immeasurable

Ephesians 3:19 AMP That you may know His love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled beyond measure with all the fullness of God.

People love to measure just about anything. It translates subjective experiences into data, helping us track progress toward a goal, compare ourselves to others, and reduce uncertainty. Unfortunately, we often do the same with our spiritual life. Even when we know that our righteousness is not based on performance but on the finished work of Christ, we still try to measure our spiritual growth and accomplishments.

So, how are you measuring your spiritual life? Whatever you are using to measure God’s presence, His provision, and the fulfillment of His promises in your life…it is not enough. The woman at the well came with her clay jar to fill with water. She came to the well knowing she would be back again tomorrow, just like she had been doing every day of her life. She sought just enough water to meet her needs for that day, but this man Jesus offered her something she could not fully grasp. John 4:13-14 tells us that Jesus said, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” He offered her the gift of living water - to never thirst again. To break free of burdens and receive the gift that Paul stated in Ephesians 3, “to be filled beyond measure with all the fullness of God.” We are asking God to fill our cups when He wants to create rivers of living water flowing from our lives.

Peter, James, John, and Andrew had been fishing all night, just like they had done every night of their lives. They only want to catch enough fish to survive until tomorrow, when they would do it all over again. Simon Peter said, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.” They were tired, hungry, and disappointed, yet Jesus told them to “go back out to the deep water and let down your nets.” Rather reluctantly, they did as he said. “When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.” (Luke 5:6-7). In that moment, God opened Peter’s eyes to see who Jesus was. He revealed himself as the God of Ephesians 3:20, “Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think.”

Are your nets breaking? Is your life overflowing from God’s presence? Until the outcome we expect is better than anything we’ve seen, heard, or imagined, we are still limiting God to our perspective. Luke 6:38 states, “Give, and it will be given to you. Poured into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over with no space left for more. For with the standard of measurement you use, it will be measured to you in return.” Contrary to what you may have heard, this verse is not about money. It refers to this: whatever measure you use to give mercy, grace, love, and kindness will be used to supply you with those same blessings. Proverbs 11:25 states it this way: “The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters others will himself be watered.”

The question remains the same: “How are you measuring your spiritual life?” Are you asking for just enough to get by, to get through the day, or trusting God to “fill beyond measure"? Psalm 34:10 TPT states, “Even the strong and the wealthy grow weak and hungry, but those who passionately pursue the Lord will never lack any good thing.” What are you lacking? Trust the God of the immeasurable.
