Psalms 125:1 TPT Those who trust in the Lord are as unshakable, as unmovable as mighty Mount Zion!
Anyone who has experienced a significant earthquake will quickly tell you just how unnerving it is: everything around you is shaking, things that should not be moving are moving, and the very ground you stand on is trembling.
While you may never feel a powerful earthquake, the things we count on each day as foundational to our own lives are just as vulnerable to unexpected shaking. Broken relationships, unexpected job losses, financial issues, sudden sicknesses—all leave us dazed and searching for stability. This promise is made from God’s own mouth: “Even if the mountains were to crumble and the hills disappear, my heart of steadfast, faithful love will never leave you, and my covenant of peace with you will never be shaken, says the Lord God, whose love and compassion will never give up on you” (Isaiah 54:10). When everything is shaken (and it will), there is only one thing to hang on to, one thing that can be trusted, our faithful God.
There may be no greater example of someone standing strong when everything is shaking than Joseph, son of Jacob (Genesis 37–50). Betrayed by his own brothers and sold into slavery, falsely accused by his boss’s wife and imprisoned, and forgotten by the fellow prisoners who he helped to gain freedom, Joseph continued to look to God for his future. God elevated Joseph from the prison to the palace for the single purpose of saving Egypt and Israel from starvation. Joseph was able to declare, “What was intended for evil, God intended for good! (Genesis 50:20).” What separated Joseph from others was his choice to forgive when unforgiveness was easily justified. He chose absolute trust in God regardless of what others did or what happened to him.
Daniel and his friends Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were taken into Babylonian captivity by King Nebuchadnezzar. Seen as “healthy, handsome, intelligent, and fit to serve,” they were selected to serve in the royal court. In other words, they had a great position and everything going for them. But there soon came a shaking moment when they had to choose between a life that was the envy of others or staying true to the God of Israel. When the King demanded they bow down and worship his statue or face a fiery death, they responded, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power. But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up” (Daniel 3:16–18). That is the absolute definition of unshakable trust in our God!
Unshakable faith in God is much more than merely hoping things turn out for the best; but focuses on God’s unchanging character and promises. God’s character is love, always good, compassionate, gracious, kind, merciful, faithful, truthful, patient, generous, and filled with wisdom. God’s promises to constantly work for you, meet all your needs with his glorious abundance, give you divine wisdom, produce good fruit in you, and answer your prayers in unimaginable ways.
Set your trust in God’s character and promises today, and you will find yourself…..Unshakable.
Isaiah 49:23 NIV “Those who hope in me will not be disappointed.”
