No Comparison

Samuel 2:2 NLT No one is holy like the Lord! There is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.

We love to compare. Comparing one thing to another is a normal exercise we all do to help make better decisions. We even have little phrases such as “apples to apples" or "apples to oranges” when referring to objects being compared. Comparing can be helpful when trying to make a purchase; however, there are two things scripture warns we are never to try and compare: the Lord and ourselves.

When Pharaoh was warned of a coming plague, Moses told him, “Then you will know that there is no one like the Lord our God.” (Exodus 8:10). David proclaimed, “Among the gods there is none like you, Lord; no deeds can compare with yours” (Psalm 86:8), and Solomon prayed, “LORD, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below. You keep your covenant and show unfailing love to all who walk before you in wholehearted devotion” (1 Kings 8:23). God's actions are not merely random events but a purposeful display of His divine nature and power to always demonstrate His grace and mercy, show His unfailing love, and prove there is no one like our God.

Just meditate for a moment on this verse: Isaiah 45:5 “I am the Lord, and there is no other.” God is making very clear that there is only one true God. He is the Lord. There is no other God who rules and reigns over all things. In this word, God was speaking to Cyrus, the King of Persia. Verse 6 continues, “You do not know me, but everything you have comes from me.” A clear reminder that everything that anyone has ultimately comes from God, regardless of whether we believe in, trust in, or worship Him. God is not just Lord over those that call on His name but over every part of creation. “He is the God who made the world and everything in it. He is Lord of heaven and earth.” Acts 17:24.

All of creation worships Him. Just imagine the magnitude of this sound: “Every creature in heaven and on earth, under the earth, in the sea, and everything in them, were worshiping with one voice, saying: Praise, honor, glory, and dominion be to God-Enthroned and to Christ the Lamb forever and ever!” Revelation 5:13. What a glorious sound…with one voice. God has made all things and formed them with the power of His Word. He knew each part of creation from its beginning to end before He created it. He spoke, and the universe and all its galaxies, stars, and planets stretched themselves out far beyond our knowledge. He has planned everything and constructed it to bring about His glory, honor, praise, and good pleasure.

And we are uniquely created in God’s image. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27). We are created in the image of a holy God, “and there is no other” (Isaiah 45:5), and He “calls us by name” (Isaiah 45:3). God individually created each of us as a unique representation of Him. When we fall into the trap of comparing ourselves with others, we are rebelling against God’s calling and purposes for our own life. We are operating out of jealousy or selfish ambition to achieve our own desires and goals. This was exactly the sin of Lucifer. Paul stated, “When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with one another, they lack wisdom and behave like fools” (2 Corinthians 10:12).

Father, we worship you today; there is no other God. We receive ourselves as a unique representation of your divine nature, placed here to demonstrate your grace, mercy, kindness, and goodness to all.

Isaiah 40:18 TPT Who even comes close to being compared to God? How could you ever compare God to an idol?

Psalms 89:6-8 NLT For who in all of heaven can compare with the Lord? What mightiest angel is anything like the Lord? The highest angelic powers stand in awe of God. He is far more awesome than all who surround his throne. O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies! Where is there anyone as mighty as you, O Lord? You are entirely faithful.

Psalms 71:19 NLT Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the highest heavens. You have done such wonderful things. Who can compare with you, O God?

Psalms 40:5 NIV Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.

Psalms 113:5-7 TPT No one can be compared to God, enthroned on high! He stoops down to look upon the sky and the earth. He promotes the poor, picking them up from the dirt, and rescues the needy from the garbage dump.

Isaiah 46:4-5 NLT I will be your God throughout your lifetime— until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you. To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?

1 Corinthians 1:29 NLT No one can ever boast in the presence of God

Galatians 6:4-5 NLT Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our own conduct.

Isaiah 10:15 NIV Does the axe raise itself above the person who swings it, or the saw boast against the one who uses it? As if a rod were to wield the person who lifts it up, or a club brandish the one who is not wood!

Isaiah 45:9-12 NLT What sorrow awaits those who argue with their Creator. Does a clay pot argue with its maker? Does the clay dispute with the one who shapes it, saying, Stop, you’re doing it wrong! Does the pot exclaim, how clumsy can you be? How terrible would it be if a newborn baby said to its father, Why was I born? Or if it said to its mother, why did you make me this way? This is what the Lord says—the Holy One of Israel and your Creator: Do you question what I do for my children? Do you give me orders about the work of my hands? I am the one who made the earth and created people to live on it. With my hands I stretched out the heavens. All the stars are at my command.

Isaiah 64:8 NIV Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

1 Corinthians 1:27-31 NAS God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God. But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, so that, just as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.
